“OFF TO YUNNAN!” – is a youth expedition project to Yunan, China that celebrates the spirit of youth, who have dedicated themselves through volunteering, for the service of other communities abroad. It evokes a youth’s adventurous pursuit for personal growth and development. The various elements found within the logo depicts the objectives as well as the aims of this expediction.
What about the signboard?
The signboard describes the place of interest: Yunan, a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the far southwest of the country. The background of the signboard briefly illustrates the natural environment of Yunan, that is largely surrounded by scenic views of mountains. As we will be going to a muslim village, the silhouette of a mosque is apt in symbolising the islamic values that the villagers embody. The tag line: BREAKING HABITS, CHANGING LIVES outlines one of our core objectives that is to educate the villagers in the aspects of healthcare. It is in our hope that new lifestyles and improvements will be made through our actions and influence.
Why the signboard?
It is to express our direction and vision for this youth expedition project as we embark into this adventurous journey of service.
PLEASE SUGGEST WAYS TO
IMPROVE ON THIS!
cos i'm struggling to come up with something coherent, nonetheless in line with what the planners of this expedition wants.
help.

ALRIGHT - BLACK/SILVER/GOLD partaayy!
it was for my dear cousin, shasha - her 21st b'dae celebration. i've decided to go for something shimmering, simple but still fun. here are the pics! and A BIG THANK YOU TO FYEDEE! thanks for lending me that humongous disco ball! i owe you one :) oh and thanks to ilyas for helping out with the mask! HAHAHA. and also thanks to all the cousins that helped out - EVERYONE, including the parents who played a major role in ensuring a sumptuous meal for the event. THANK YOU. oh yeah, and to shasha's friends as well who have been really cooperative! thanks :)
these are basically the materials - a hand made ipod touch replica, 2 disco balls, black drapes, matt balloons, crepe paper, lots of black/silver/gold paper and card board (donated by the popular bookstore, HAHA) btw, everything (decorations) was under 40 bucks!

the place all set up, in 3 hours. thanks to all who helped: haqiz for the black drapes, daniel/aqilah/wak ros/sheila/syahidah for the streamers and hafiz/danish for the balloon arch. oh and fahrul/syahidah for tagging along to by the stuffs!
everyone all set. SHASHA'S DAD: (through sms) THE EAGLE HAS LANDED. the code name for the birthday girl's arrival.
the ipod touch replica: thanks to fyedee for the inspiration. but this sure as hell takes like a lot of the prep time because the details were very important. it took 2 days to prepare. partly also because i was distracted by victoria's secret show on channel 5 on thurs! HAHAHA.
shasha's very cooperative friends - all in theme coloured clothes (black&white), who came down to be part of the surprise!
the cousins team who helped out to make this event a success. and thanks to luqman/daniel/hariz/danish for putting up a singing performance with the guitar. also thanks to hariz who was in charge of programming activity for that fantastic fun game of : DON'T FORGET THE TITLE (song)
happy 21st birthday shasha! :) next year we gotta throw for 4 of them!
cam-whores with the ipod touch
and the cake, that was customised just for the birthday girl. ordered the cupcakes from CUPCAKEMOMMA.COM
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. i really appreciate all the support needed to pull this off. an event which i thought would NEVER materialise. more importantly, shasha's parents who were extremely supportive and dedicated especially during the planning phase of the party. thank you to all. and i hope the birthday girl enjoyed HERSELF! cos we sure did enjoyed planning for this :)

EDIT 08
Monday, January 5, 2009
You know, sometimes. As I looked back in retrospect. I doubt I have been grateful of most things that had happened: 2008 – a year that was insignificant? It was certainly a trying, tough year relative to many others. And I guess, that was the primary reason why I didn’t really feel proud about 2008. It could have been better, but after much thought, that was the best that could possibly happen. And as I begin to re-read my “new year” post, I think I’ve not done justice to the past year. An insignificant year? Not so, now. Really.
What matters, is the fact that I survived it. And for that I’m truly now, grateful and thankful for all that has happened. They bear lessons and witness to the strengths that a person possesses in tough, trying times.
Thank YOU.

the box
this is the reason why, i hate going to school on some days. it makes me feel like crap, stupid and depressed. i can't help but feel like i lack this particular gene that expresses intelligence in all its glory. why can some people, think and generate creative ideas - ideas that are sharp & concised, ideas that are real and believable, having opinions that are strong, well-balanced, supported and worthy of being listened to. they have that "spark", that stroke of genius in them. i really wish i could have them. i need to be sharper, audacious and bolder in thoughts.i gotta be creative.
argh.
ideas. box - out of it. think.

When music sounds, gone is the earth I know,And all her lovely things even lovelier grow;
Her flowers in vision flame, her forest trees
Lift burdened branches, stilled with ecstasies.

long felt inadequacies make my defenses strong.
The nearer you approach me
the blinder I may strike back.
Despite what books say of men, I am irrational;
I fight against the very thing that I cry out for.
you wonder who I am
you shouldn't
for I am everyman
and everywoman
who wears a mask.
Don't be fooled by me.
At least not by the face I wear.

Summoned into Presence by his pleasure
Oh that i could have grown more slowly -
Remember being held, and cradled like treasure.
the start of something new, something huge.

it's over, so way over.
Thursday, January 1, 2009
Finally, 2008 is over and done with.(that’s enough to sum up the year, actually)
2008 hadn’t been really significant. It was a few phases of my life brought together in a pretty expected sequence – end of army, start of temp job at pwc, relief teaching assignments for 3 months and eventually the commencement of school in August. Nothing really interesting or life-changing, it was pretty much – normal and sequential.
School just had to end on a not-so-good note. Results, were okay. I’m happy and contented – but not the sort of happiness that would make me jump up and down, (anyway, I never really did experience it before – the jumping up and down for joy kind) all thanks to EC1301: Principles of Economics. Urgh, I hate it. Well, hypothetically, you wouldn’t really want to compare with ur peers but in reality, we all know that it’s not possible. And it makes me feel even less happy than I already am when I do so. Lesson number 1: BID THE RIGHT MODULES AT THE RIGHT TIME. Choices that we make are truly important and I learnt it the hard way. But then again, it’s okay. This is only one semester. Many many more semesters to go. I have to work harder for semester 2. 2008 was truly a year of poor choices and I suffered the consequences. Let’s move on. No more talks on 2008.
+++
the first unexpected phone call of 2009: este. oh gosh, that was a pleasant surprise, especially after my family and i bumped to your family earlier during dinner. Happy New Year to you and i hope you are enjoying yourselves in LA, or is it vegas? hmm. not sure, but yeah, wherever you are, you sure did usher the new year with a blast! Hope to see you back here in the tropical island soon. And that goes to carol too! Next sem is definitely gonna be more interesting! HAHAHA.
2009, I hope would be better in all aspects. Make better well-informed choices, decisions and plans. I would want to take part in a running event – either sundown marathon/vertical marathon or the standard chartered one with the army friends, cos that would definitely be so much fun! Of course, I have to work even harder for Sem 2 and 3 to make up for the damage EC1301 has done. And, I really hope that whatever modules I may eventually take, I will enjoy and hopefully do well in.
Besides that, I would certainly want to go for an overseas community involvement trip to gain exposure to how grateful, life as I know it, is to me. And, I wanna go for a leisure trip with friends – as budget as it can be, I want to do this because it has been something that I’ve talked about for a very long time but never really did set an aim to do it. So, 2009 will be the year. And I would love to go for a short internship with a company, whose job scope is similar to what I’m studying. I know it can be hard, but I’m really hoping and praying for an opportunity. And as promised, I will be part of SDE’S RAG team, to be among the trainers for this year’s rag performance – we need to get back that best float/performance title that our seniors have earned for the past 10 years!
To end my list of 2009 – should have-s/ would want-s/hopes and aspirations, I would want to be a better friend to people. I don’t think I’ve done it well the past year :( and I really hope, if it does happens, it will be all worth it. Lastly, I gotta be a better person, son and muslim.
Let 2009, be a year filled with so much more fulfilment, contentment and peace. Happy New Year everyone! and god bless :)
